The JLN-550 Doppler Sonar - Tank Mount is a 2-axis, 4-beam Doppler Sonar using

dual frequencies designed to provide ship speed information with higher stability than

earlier systems. The new system utilizes a lower ultrasonic frequency of (240kHz)

which is adequate to measure the ship's speed over ground to greater depths than

previous systems, and then shift to the higher ultrasonic frequency of (2 MHz) that

measures ship's speed over water. The new transducer, although designed for dual

frequency transmission, is smaller in size than that of the more conventional mod-

els. The JLN-550 can also be upgraded for input from ROT units and can provide

Athwart ships speed both fore and aft for docking purposes.

Unlike an electromagnetic speed log or other type, this equipment does not require a

sensor protruding through the ship hull; this greatly reduces the routine maintenance.

Another special feature is the capability to measure own ship speeds at dead slow move-

ment with high accuracy. The pair-beams at 1 MHz sonic frequency ensure accuracy in

rough water.

The primary functions of the DS80 operate without any interaction. Simply keep the

power switch on. The user-friendly menu ensures easy adjustment of all functions. Aux-

iliary functions such as resetting the Distance Run and speed offset are easy using the

menu. Optional analog and digital remote displays are available to enhance the conven-

ience of navigation.

measurement and information. The JLN-205 utilizing high frequency of ultrason-

ic wave brings high stability and accuracy of speed measurement. In addition, a

miniaturized transducer will enable to install on the bow where it is in less influ-

ence against tiny bubbles.
